My Personal Reflection

First of all, I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. I have never had a class that was as hands on as this class. I could actually use my skills and creativity ,and I could voice my own opinion about things. There are many things that I could NOT do before this class ,but now I know how to do many of them. I never knew what a "blog" was until this class. I have enjoyed my blog because I like communicating with others. I really enjoyed reading the teachers and kids blogs and just being able to communicate with others around the world. You can learn many new and great things just by talking to others across the world. I never knew what a PLN was until this class, or how to upload videos, or delicious. I did not know much about technology until this class ,and how useful the internet actually is.

Before this class, I always thought of me being a teacher ,however I never really looked at having my students use technology. It never really crossed my mind. However; because of this class, I have such a different outlook on how I will teach my students. I want my students to be able to use technology, and the internet. I want them to use blogs so they can communicate with others. I want them to be engaged in learning and interested also I want them to have fun at the same time. I know by the time I become a teacher, there will be even more new and advanced technology, so I will do what it takes for my students to be able to use technology. Kids need to be able to use their creativity, skills and talents they have. By me just lecturing, I feel like the kids are not learning, and I am not doing my job. And being a teacher isn't really a job for me because I love working with kids.

I am very thankful that I have had the opportunity to take this class. Many classes need to be more like EDM 310. I am also thankful for having Dr. Strange as a teacher. He has been very helpful. Also, Anthony, Jamie and Mr.Tashbin have been very helpful.

Mean Oil Spill

This video really can get the word out about how much damage the oil spill is causing.Hopefully people will take in consideration this video and try to help the oil spill. Hopefully people will start volnteering to help.

Just Pray

This video is very touching. Many people need to pray and take action in order to stop the oil spill. As you can see from this picture, many animals are sffering from this oil spill. So I think we shold all pray and try to do what we can in order to help our animals.

Final Kids Comments

I really enjoyed reading this post. I think reading Day sounds fun and very exciting for kids. I also enjoyed the song "this book is goin to be a good book" because it encorages kids to read. To check out their blog click here

Blog Post 12

The Principal of change video talked about how technology has enhanced engineering. Dr. Laura Smolkin talks about the principle of least change as it applies to pre-service teacher education and STEM learning

FAB LAB
Students in this video are constructing and destructing shapes. This video provides information about the Classroom Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab), a STEM-related initiativeTeachers not only help the stdents, but the students help eachother as well. They internalize mathematical concepts by doing this. They use 2D and 3D figures. I think this is a wonderful way to help kids learn. They seemed very interested in reconstructing these 2D and 3D shapes.

Imagine. Design. Create.
This video talks about digital fabrication.Digital fabrication involves translation of a digital design into a physical object. The digital design is used to create a physical object from materials such as cardstock, foam, clay, nylon, or metal. Other tools such as 3D printers can be used to construct objects by printing successive layers of materials to form an object. I would use this in my classroom because it is very creative and hands on.

Cloning and Duplicating Shapes video gives very thorough instrctions on how to clone and duplicate shapes. This Step-by-Step video gives you visual instructions to clone and duplicate shapes.

Mrs.Cassidy's Video

I really enjoyed watching how Ms.Cassidy's approach of using technology in a classroom. When I become a teacher, I will use the Smartboard for interaction with the kids. As seen in my previous video, I do not think Smartboards are useful with older kids; however I want to teach the second grade, so I think a Smartboard is a good way for students to learn. I also would use computers.

In the video, the students used the computers for great edcational sites such as reading. I think this is a great way for students to learn. I also think it's great how they use blogs and skype. The students can communicate with other students and learn from them I will use this because students need to be able how to use technology since it is growing so fast. Also, I think it's great how the students would make their own videos. Not only were they interested ,but they were learning as well.

My Interview

I wanted to ask these qestions because I wanted to know if other fields used technology for their classrooms. I also wanted to know more about the bio-medical field. It seems like many people I come across to, are not thrilled with this field at South ALabama. I asked Taylor "What technology would she like to have in a classoom?" and her response said "Any type of techniology that I would actually feel engaged in. This makes me wonder. I think that more classes shold be hands on so students will be more enthusiaised.

What I've Learned This Year

The 7th Graders PLE was very neat and had cool effects. Her PLE is very organized and it is in some way similar to mine. We both communicate with others using facebook and other social networks. We both use google docs to create projects instead of using paper. I use the internet just like her to find out lots of new information that I do not know. My PLN has been very helpful to me and it seems like it has been very helpful to her too as well.

My Sentence

"I'm living life to the fullest and never looking back because there's a reason for my future and a reason for my past."

The Challenges and Successes of a PLC

Mr. Bill Ferriter had great answers to questions about a PLC. He says that the biggest challenge of PLCs is that it is overlooked. many people stop when they get stuck. As a result to this, students, teachers, school professionals needs to have an awareness. He gives his viewpoints on what teachers should know so they can flourish their students. He says "The biggest benefit of successfully implemented PLCs is highly motivated and energized teachers and school professionals" which I completely agree. If teachers are not energized and motivated then their students will not be motivated. We need good teachers so students can be more excited and engaged in the learning.

An Open Letter To Education
I really enjoyed watching Dan speak in the video. I agreed with him in many ways ;however there are some things he said that I did not agree with. I agreed with him how education is not the same and it needs to be changed. I do think we have "lost sight to what education really is" because education is still the same even with all of this new and avanced technology. All of my classes except for this class is about lecturing.

Dan also said that "it's about empowering our students to make a difference in the world." Well, if students are not able to use their skills and talents then they will not know how to share them with others. Many classes are not hands on; therefore there is no interaction with the students.

Even though there are many things that could change in our education system, I do not think it is right to just drop out. Even though most classes are boring, I do not think that someone should give up and drop out. Maybe, we should all try to do something to try to change the education system. Instead of just talking about, let's start acting and MAKIING a difference to the world.

What I've Learned This Year

I think it's great that Mr. McClung shared his experience as being a teacher for his first year. He seems like a teaher who actually gets his students involved instead of just lecturing back and forth, and we need more teachers like that. He encourages his students to do their best, and he listens to them. When they mess up or get knocked down, he picks them back up. I think it's great when he said "don't be afraid of technology, technology is our friend." Today and in the future, students need to be able to use and learn the advances of technology. If students have the opportunity, then they should use it.

My Teacher

My Teacher, Bill Ferriter is informing people about the use of Interactive White Boards. Well, from what he has heard, they are not useful. It's just lecturing back and forth which is just a waste of time and money. I don't know if Interactive White Boards are useful because I have never dealt with them. But, if I were to know how to use one, I would try to see if i could get the children engaged in the learning with the Interactive White Board instead of just lecturing back and forth.

Randy Pausch

First of all, I thought this speech was very inspirational. Randy Pausch is a very strong man who lives each day to the fullest. Doctors told him he was only going to live for 3 to 6 months, and he lived way longer than that. I think that is amazing. I also loved how he was saying he was not only enabling his dreams, but also the dreams of others. He had a list of dreams, and one of his first was "Zero Gravity." He went and experienced how it felt to float in the air like astranauts. I really liked when his assistant football coach told him "when your screwing up and nobody's saying anything to you anymore, that means they gave up." To me, this means that when people are pushing you, it means they care about you and they want you to succeed."Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." I also like this saying because usually when kids are playing sports, the things they learn are about team-work, and sportsmanship.

I really enjoyed his dream about becoming an engineer. When he said "Brick walls are not there to keep us out, the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something, Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it bad enough" inspired me. This teaches me not to let one setback push me down, but to make me try harder at achieving it. Also, it teaches me not to give up.

I thought Jon Snoddy taught Randy some valuable things that Randy carried throughtout his life. Jon said "Wait long enough, and people will surprise and impress you." This teaches me to not give up on anyone. We all need to be patient with one another, and later we will all be impressed with what we have found. Randy taught a course called "Building Virtual Worlds." His class put on a show for the whole Campus to see. It was really cool to see the bunny virtually. It was like seeing their imaginations come true.

I really enjoyed the end,"How to get people to help you." You can't get anywhere alone. "I'll take an earnest person over a hip person any day, Because hip is short-term. Earnest is long term." Also I liked it when he said focus on other people and apologize when you screw up. "Brick walls are there to show our dedication." These little things that he has taught is very inspirational. This video has taught me many valuable things. I'm never going to give up my dream, and brickwalls are there to show me how dedicated I really am to something.

Blog Post 6

Dr. Miller's Videos were very intriguing ;however I think that the first video could have been more creative. He did a really good job explaining the use of technology in the classroom. He seemed like he did a lot of research in order to come as far as he has.

I do agree with Dr. Miller about the need for developing a curriculum. We need a curriculum in order for us to use the technology. I like how Dr. Miller teaches students to produce multimedia instead of just consuming it.

Networked Student is a very creative video. I like how the video was drawed out like cartoon characters. I thought the video was inspiring. He used itunes which many professors recognized.

This video teaches many people how useful networks can be. It can open many doors for people. For his American Psy. class, he could voice his own opinion about things. I think that is very helpful, and I think because of this, he is getting a lot more out of the class.

Why does the networked student even need a teacher? She's the one that teaches him how to build the network and to take advantage of learning opportunities. The teacher guides the students when they get stuck. I do not think that I am prepared to be a teacher of a networked student because I still have so much to learn.

Michael Wesch's video relates to my personal life. He said he teaches students at Kansas, and then he goes on talking about how students are not engaged. This relates to my life because my classes are the same. Most of my classes are just lectures. I agree with Michael when he says that parents in the 70s say "I'm okay, your okay." He says they are very self-focused in this generation, which I do agree with him.

This also relates to me because sometimes I will catch my self saying "Whatever I'll do What I want." I can't believe I really do say that. It is very selfish. After watching this video, it made me realize how much the generations have changed. Overall, this was a very effective video.

EDM 310 for Dummies and the Chipper Video

The video EDM 310 for dummies was very realistic and true. I felt like this class can be frustrating, but every class has its frustrations. I felt like they did in the video, how this class was bringing me down; however thanks to the tutorials and help from Dr.Strange and the assistants, I am doing much better. As time has went on in this class, I feel like it is getting easier since I am learning more and more. The video Chipper was pretty intersting. I liked how the video showed different clips. Both of these movies, I think are very entertaining and funny.

My Teacher

My teacher posted a video on his blog. The video gave me some unbelievable facts!A really intersting fact is that facebook has over 30,000 servers. Facebook also is the most widely used social network. Also another shocking fact is that 81% of emails are spam! To watch this video click My teacher's Blog

Blog Post 5-Critques of Smartboards

Mrs. Manza's article
Mrs. Manza's artice seems to disagree with Mr. Ferriter's perspective of "Why I hate Interactive Whiteboards." Mrs. Giley who is a teacher at Kent County High School states "What makes it worthwhile are the interactive features and getting the kids at the board to connect with the material, because on the whiteboard you can present it in a way you cannot do with a chalkboard or overhead projector." With the interactive white board, she can take kids through a lesson step by step, and it is visual. Students with disabilities are able to interact in the lesson by tracing letters and by making colorful charts showing patterns.

In this ArticleProfessional Development Resource For Innovative Educators , they think Smartboards are a great way of learning. They state "SmartBoards have been proven to be effective teaching and learning tools in the classroom for reaching all students with multiple learning styles." They think it is a smart way to enrich technology. They even show a four session course that focuses on training a teacher to understand the tools and advanced functions to fully utilize the Smartboard in the classroom.

BLOG POST 4

Curriki-PodcastCollection

This blog gave me a lot of information that will help me make my podcast. Because of reasing this, I now know what a "podcast" actually is. A podcast is pretty much like a talk-show but you can add music as well. They can convey information about any subject.

This video linked to a Youtube video which shows how to make a podcast. You have to download Audacity but this is free. To check out this video click How To Make A Podcast

Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom Video

This video gives the benefits of having podcasts. One of the greatest benefits is when students are sick, they can still be able to learn what they have missed. It provides releveant information even when they are on the go. They can even have their podcast added to their itunes.

Many of his students loved the podcasting in the classroom. It makes learning fun and interactive. Students have the ability to listen to their teachers whenever they like.

Eagles' Nest Radio $ Class Blog
I really enjoyed reading the Eagles' Nest class blog. I loved listening to their audio MP3. I thought that was very interesting. I really enjoyed the Shark-tastic interview. I liked listening about the Ancient Romans and their architecture.

My reaction to their blog was WOW! These kids seem to know much more about blogs than I do. They know how to add music and their voices to the blog. These children amaze me. I think these kids will be able to carry all of what they know to their future.

Langwitches Blog

I really enjoyed reading this blog. I loved thier creativity and theme of their Blog which is "the magic of learning." What was shocking to me was how 1st graders know about podcasting and I do not. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their blog "A worldwide Audience for Six Year Olds."
In this blog contained benefits of students practicing their skills. Some benefits are listening, speaking, and technology. This gives each of the parents reasons why kids need to be able to use the internet. From their class blog, they recieved feedbacks from many other countries.
Don't Teach Your Kids this Stuff by Mr.Mcleod
I agree and disagree with Mr. Mcloed's statement. Scott Mcloed Kids should be able to use facebook, twitter and other uses of technology; however I think that the children should know the dangers of it. I would stess to them that predators that are on the internet and to never give anyone their private information. So, if students know the precautions of the internet, they should be able to use it.

The iSchool Initiative
I do agree with what he is saying. We need to prepare children for today and the future. However, many things can go wrong when using some of this technology. An ipod can crash, or it can get stolen. But I still think that overall we need to have our main focus on preparing children for the future.
My reaction to this video was mutual; however I agree with more of what he is saying than disagree. I think we need to do whatever it takes to prepare people for the future.
Lost Generation
This video made me get a reality of our society today. It made me sad and realize that people really do only care about money. People really do put their jobs before their family. But can we really blame these people? People have to work in order to make a living for their family. Now, 50% of marriages do not even last. i think that this has to do with our society and the way our society works.
The Schools of Tomorrow
I really enjoyed watching this video.Eric Whitaker's choir was very good. It's background and the way the video was set up was amazing. My favorite part to this video was when the kids are singing. This video was very peaceful.
A Vision of Students

This video was very intersting. I liked this video because we got to see some perspectives of college students. Many of these facts were true. There are thousands of people in debt. There are so many people who only make one dollar a day. A bunch of college classes will not even be effective by the time they graduate.
My reaction was not surprising because what they had written down was very true. I have not used many text books since I have been here, so it has been a waste of money. Some of the classes that I have taken will not be helpful for me in the future. I'm very glad to be in this class because of the creativity and new skills involved. Edm 310 is giving me skills that I will actually use in the future.

It's Not About the Technology by Kelly Hines

This post is about the four aspects that teacher needs in order to be effective. The four things that a teacher needs in order to be effective is 1. Teachers must be learners. 2. Learning and technology are not the same thing. 3.Technology is useless without good teaching. 4.Be a 21st Century teacher without the technology.
This video is true in some ways; however some ways it is not. I do not agree with "Be a 21st Century teacher without the technology." Since everything almost involves some sort of technology, teachers should use it and embrace it.

The Fischbowl
The Fischbowl had some very valuable information in it. I do agree with what is being said. I especially like the quote "If a teacher today is not technologically literate - and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more - it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write." I agree with this completely.

Gary's Social Media Count
This Media Count was very shocking to me. The numbers of new facebook members, the money spent on gifts of facebook is unrea to me. All of this information is unbelievable. I think that this information proves how much we use technology and how much we need to know about it.
