Randy Pausch

First of all, I thought this speech was very inspirational. Randy Pausch is a very strong man who lives each day to the fullest. Doctors told him he was only going to live for 3 to 6 months, and he lived way longer than that. I think that is amazing. I also loved how he was saying he was not only enabling his dreams, but also the dreams of others. He had a list of dreams, and one of his first was "Zero Gravity." He went and experienced how it felt to float in the air like astranauts. I really liked when his assistant football coach told him "when your screwing up and nobody's saying anything to you anymore, that means they gave up." To me, this means that when people are pushing you, it means they care about you and they want you to succeed."Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." I also like this saying because usually when kids are playing sports, the things they learn are about team-work, and sportsmanship.

I really enjoyed his dream about becoming an engineer. When he said "Brick walls are not there to keep us out, the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something, Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it bad enough" inspired me. This teaches me not to let one setback push me down, but to make me try harder at achieving it. Also, it teaches me not to give up.

I thought Jon Snoddy taught Randy some valuable things that Randy carried throughtout his life. Jon said "Wait long enough, and people will surprise and impress you." This teaches me to not give up on anyone. We all need to be patient with one another, and later we will all be impressed with what we have found. Randy taught a course called "Building Virtual Worlds." His class put on a show for the whole Campus to see. It was really cool to see the bunny virtually. It was like seeing their imaginations come true.

I really enjoyed the end,"How to get people to help you." You can't get anywhere alone. "I'll take an earnest person over a hip person any day, Because hip is short-term. Earnest is long term." Also I liked it when he said focus on other people and apologize when you screw up. "Brick walls are there to show our dedication." These little things that he has taught is very inspirational. This video has taught me many valuable things. I'm never going to give up my dream, and brickwalls are there to show me how dedicated I really am to something.

  1. I agree, very inspirational. I too thought his comments regarding "brick walls" were really profound. I know many times in my life I have encountered brick walls and, thinking about these experiences in this way, I realize that in some cases I met the challenge and in other cases I missed opportunities. I think from now on at least, I'll know a brick wall when I see one. SS
